In every nation of the world, entry into medical school is very intensive and competitive. There is an average
5,500 applicats for approximately 150-160 spots. Now, that is a BIG problem!
Despite having a high grade point average and impressive scores on the entrance examinations, many good candidates
still do not get accepted to study medicine. It appears there are too many students trying to get into the
limited places available. This is a fact of life!
The world is full of disappointed bright students who never got a chance to fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor.

KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICINE COUNTS?
Most medical school applicants only have a general idea of what medicine is really about.
Most have not worked in a clinical/hospital environment before nor do they have a clear knowledge of what the medical field trully entails.
Most have never really had the oppurtunity of walking in the steps of a medical doctor for an hour let alone for a week.
Therefore it is impossible to demonstrate genuine passion for the sick and dying if you have not has the chance to get really close to them.
Medical school should not be the place to first discover what MEDICINE is REALLY all about.
You owe it yourself to have gained some first hand experience prior to enrolling in a medical school/college.
OUR MEDICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM - IS YOUR HELPING HAND
By attending a PRE-MEDICINE internship with us, you wil get a chance to:
1] Assist/support clinicians in their normal routine medical work daily.
2] Experience real clinical and surgical hospital environment during your internship.
3] See, talk to and assist REAL PATIENTS in a clinical/hospital environment.
4] Attend as an observer & a little medical helper in the following areas/departments of Medicine:
Family Practice, General Surgery, Obstretics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Antenatal & Miwifery clinic,
Emergency Medicine [Casualty], Radiology, Intensive Care Unit, Anti-Retrovial Treatment Unit[HIV], etc.
5] Gain introduction to the use of basic medical equipments such as: Stethoscopes, otoscopes, Sphygmomanometers, etc
6] Be given a chance to learn how to:
Carry out physical examinations on volunteer patients.
Take vital signs of patients.
Help in paediatric wards with newborn babies.
Taking patients medical history.
Help patients dress wounds/injuries.
Participate in patient counseling sessions.
Participate in dispensing minor drugs.
Assist with vaccination programs.
Observe phlebotomists drawing blood & assist them.
Accompany patients to laboratory, screening & X-rays exercises.
Assist staff with stocking medicines and distributing medical supplies, etc.
7] Gain some experience by shadowing several medical doctors/surgeons for 2-4 weeks or more.
8] Attend workshops that gives you a simple & basic insight into the medical profession.
9] Have interview sessions with professional nurses, doctors and healthcare workers.
10] Participate in Mobile Medical Outreach to local villages & comunities.
11] Get to speak face to face with real, poor, struggling and suffering patients who have no
one to care for them in this world and are having a hard time in life.
12] Accompany a homecare nurse/doctor/health care worker on home visits to the sick in rural villages.
13] Attend a final debriefing workshop/session before you depart the internship mission field.
14] Receive a CERTIFICATE of internship accomplishment upon completion.

Your internship will take place at our partner general, district, local and private hospitals/clinics
in Kitake area as well as in the Mount Elgon communities of Kenya.
