Welcome to JHM Global Pre-Med Internship!
At JHM GLOBAL MEDICAL we provide midwifery internships in partnership with several public and private hospitals
in and around the Mount Elgon area of Kenya. Interns are assigned to specific hospitals or health institutions
where they will have the opportunity to experience different types of clinical cases in their field.
You will gain a deeper understanding of maternity issues and complications.
Your role in Pre-natal, Pro-natal and Post-natal care services will enable you to performing various medical services and assessments. You will have the opportunity to observe, assist and also be directly involved in treatment plans as well as with all health related issues associated with pregnancy and child bearing challenges.
You will have daily involvement with midwifery practices including: Diagnosis of pregnancy complications, monitoring pregnancies, Caesarean surgical procedures, normal deliveries, minor surgical operations and other exercises pertinent to your calling as a midwife. You will have ample opportunity to gain essential knowledge that will enable you to become more effective in how to apply theoretical understanding to practical real life situations in maternity.
You will shadow qualified midwives, obstetricians and other medical professionals within the hospitals on a daily basis, thus giving you a broader experience in this field and learning from qualified professionals.

Nursing education is beneficial and being registered on a Midewifery course at a hospital, college or university
is an essential requirement.

ADVANTAGES OF OUR MIDWIFERY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
By attending a MIDWIFERY internship with us, you are able to:
1] Gain valuable experience by shadowing professional midwives for 2-4 weeks or more.
2] Attend daily maternity clinic assisting patients.
3] Meet, talk to and assist PREGNANY PATIENTS in a maternity ward environment daily.
4] Attend as a midwife helper in the following areas/functions of Midwifery:
Antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of women, up until 28 days after the birth, or as required thereafter.
Attending the majority of births, mostly in a hospital setting
Attend some home birth deemed as a perfectly safe option during your internship.
5] Have access to the most fully equiped maternity facilities available in the area.
6] Be given a chance to observe baby delivery and assist in the delivery rooms.
7] Attend workshops that gives you a simple & basic insight into midwifery as a profession.
8] Have official & personal interview sessions with professional midwives during your internship.
9] Participate in Mobile Medical Outreach to visit pregnant patients or attend birth at local villages & comunities.
10] Participate and experience night delivery of babies as scheduled [Your choice].
11] Experience NEONATAL premature babies care at a unit equipped with incubators, etc.
12] Attend a final Midwifery debriefing workshop before you depart to go back home.

INTERNSHIP ASSESSMENT
The supervisor evaluates your work at the end of the experience following the formats generally set
by University; this allows you to receive adequate academic credit for the internship.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
At the end of your internship you will be awarded a certificate of completion and a written
testimonial of your activities & services renedered whilst with us.
HOSPITAL PLACEMENT
Your midwifery internship will take place at our partner local, district, private and general hospitals/clinics
in Kitale area as well as in the Mount Elgon communities of Kenya.
